Microsoft SkyDrive is one of the best cloud computing software in the market. The biggest advantage of using SkyDrive over other competitors is that it works seamlessly with Windows 8 and is integrated into its core mechanisms. Today I am going to share some of the best tips and tricks that you should use in order to be a SkyDrive power user.
1. Working with Groups
If you take a look at the groups tap in the left section you will see that you can create numerous groups for handling specific sets of people like family, office workers and more. Creating groups allow you to get a personalized email address which can be used to upload and share content from SkyDrive directly with the members. Even if your members are not using the software they can still receive and views files from SkyDrive.
2. Embed SkyDrive Content
Sometimes it’s best if you can get a short snippet of the actual file hosted in Microsoft SkyDrive. In such a scenario you can embed any file directly onto your website or blog. Right click any file or folder and select embed. Now click on Generate. On the right hand side of the popup window you will get your personalized embed code. Copy paste the code anywhere on your website. On the left hand side of your popup you will also get a snippet preview of how the embedded content will look on a webpage.
3. Sharing Content from SkyDrive using a Link
Another handy tip is the ability to share any file from SkyDrive with anyone. Start by selecting one or multiple files and then click on the Sharing option on the top bar. You will be greeted with a popup window which lets to select the type of sharing you want to conduct. Go to “Get a Link” section and choose the following options
View Only – Others can use a dedicated link to view the file you are sharing.
View and Edit – Others can use a dedicated link to view as well as do editing to the files.
Public – You generate a universal link that can be shared and reshared with anyone.
4. Disable People Tagging
Sometimes it’s annoying when someone keeps tagging you in various SkyDrive photos. You can quickly disable this using the following steps:
- Click on the wrench icon on the top right section of your screen and select Settings
- Click on People Tagging
- Under the Photos of You Section select Only Me to control your privacy
