YouTube India adds TV Shows
YouTube India is constantly looking for new ways to engage a wider range of audience. Last year the Indian version of the famous video networking website saw the launch of YouTube Movies which became a massive success. In 2012 YouTube tries to take a step forward with an all new segment called YouTube TV Shows. If you recently visited YouTube you must have noticed the new link appearing on the top right beside the YouTube search bar.Most of the TV shows I have seen till date are in Hindi. It’s been some time now that YouTube was negotiating with leaders from the television industry to work out and formulate a plan that would benefit both the parties.
Upon clicking TV Shows you will find that the main page is categorized into several categories like Drama, Entertainment, and Comedy etc. Under each tab you can view a list of the popular TV Shows that fall under them. Shows are organized into episodes making it easier for the end user to keep track rather than having to browse between full length weekly reels.
I must say that till now all the episodes do show up that 10-15 second initial video advertisement before the episode kicks in but it’s obviously worth the wait. My dad is a big fan of CID and now he can follow all the episodes from the 15 year old TV show right in his laptop.
Another important segment that YouTube is trying to target in order to get even more engagement with users is house wives. If you are an Indian then you obviously know how popular the Saas-Bahu serials were. I mean I could not even watch the Live India match when it was 10 PM as my mom would be glued to the TV waiting for the unrealistic family drama to begin. With YouTube TV Shows moms and aunties now have a solid reason to browse the web. All the episodes are right there and you can choose which one to watch for hours.
YouTube India certainly made a smart move incorporating some of the famous TV shows from the Indian Television Industry but it would be interesting to see how people react over the course of a long span of time.
